Happy Memorial Day 2016

This morning thousands of motorcyclists rode from central Riverside to the Riverside National Cemetery to honor those who died serving our country in the military.  This is the west coast version of "Rolling Thunder" which also takes place on Memorial Day in Washington DC.  Below are some pictures from this year's event.  They are from a different vantage point this year in that my bicycle had a flat time and I missed the motorcade when it passed near my home.

Prof. Julie Bailey-Serres Elected to National Academy


Professor Julia Bailey-Serres, professor in the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences and Environmental Toxicology Graduate Program faculty member was recently elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences, one of the highest honors that a scientist can receive in the United States.  As described in an article in UCR Today, Julia is being recognized for the discovery and characterization of a gene that allows plants to survive under water.  Our congratulations to Julia for this impressive honor and recognition.  [The photo above is from an earlier UCR Today article.]
