Recent studies by ETOX graduate student Miranda Aiken, Professor Samantha Ying and colleagues measured and modeled the manganese concentrations in private wells and community drinking water supplies in the Central Valley of California. Their studies indicated that a significant number of Californians, frequently living in disadvantaged communities, may be drinking Mn-containing water at levels that may increase their risk for neurological symptoms. Their work was published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology and has attracted the attention of various news outlets such as the University of California News, the Hanford Sentinel and the DailyMail.com.
