Toxicologist positions in state agencies

ETOX Alumnus Efrem Neuwirth forwarded announcements of several open toxicologist positions to me this morning.  Key details are posted below.

1.  The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is recruiting a Toxicologist to lead the Montana Environmental Health Education and Assessment (MEHEA) program. The person in this position will conduct public health risk assessments or exposure investigations in communities with state or federal superfund sites and brownfields. This work will require close coordination with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, and local government. The toxicologist will also provide technical assistance on other environmental health issues such as fish consumption or harmful algal blooms.

This is a new program at DPHHS. We are looking for an energetic professional to lead this new work at DPHHS. 2.  Toxicology and Response Section - Toxicologist 12 (1) (application closes 6/8/2017)
The person in this position is responsible for independently evaluating environmental, demographic, and health outcome data from multiple and complex sites of chemical contamination, determining whether a public health hazard exists, making and following up on recommendations to protect public health, and documenting the findings in Health Consultations, Public Health Assessments, or other reports. The toxicologist collaborates with other federal, state, and local health, as well as regulatory agencies. The person in this position interacts with the public via meetings, telephone conversations, and field visits, responding to community health concerns and analyzing health outcome data.

3. Toxicology and Response Section - Toxicologist 12 (2) (application closes 6/8/2017)
This position conducts highly technical chemical-specific evaluations to support Department objectives. The toxicologist works in cooperation with other federal, state, and local health and regulatory agencies. The person in this position interacts with the public, local officials, and legislators via meetings, telephone conversations, e-mails, and field visits, responding to community health concerns and providing information to protect public health. This position requires advanced knowledge of toxicology often gained with a masters degree, as well as skill in compiling and summarizing complex toxicological literature that are critical to the function of the work area. The person in this position is responsible for independently evaluating environmental, demographic, and health-outcome data from chemically contaminated sites, determining whether a public health hazard exists, and documenting the findings in Health Consultation or Public Health Assessment reports.

4. CLPPP Section Manager (State Administrative Manager 15) (application closes 6/15/2017)
This position serves as the section manager for the Environmental Health Surveillance and Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Section.  As directed, the individual in this position administers ongoing programmatic activities in the development and maintenance of surveillance systems for environmental and occupational hazards, exposures, and health effects; and oversees actions to reduce and prevent adverse health effects. As directed, the individual is responsible for the administration of designated surveillance and intervention activities specified in cooperative agreements and grants with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other funding sources. This position provides management of budgets, staff and other resources assigned to these projects.

5. CLPPP Unit Manger (Public Health Consultant Manager 14) (application closes 6/15/2017)
This position is the unit manager for the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CLPPP). The person in this position is responsible for coordinating activities of CLPPP with other state, federal, and local health agencies and the public to maintain and disseminate data on lead poisoning and conduct education and interventions to mitigate and prevent the adverse health effects of exposure to lead in the environment. The person is responsible for overseeing budgets and contracts, providing leadership statewide to develop and implement evidence based approaches to lead poisoning prevention, ensuring that health care providers comply with blood lead testing recommendations, ensuring that high quality data are available to be used to target testing and interventions, and conducting program improvement activities based on continuous program evaluation activities. The person is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and supervising staff, and evaluating work performance, in accordance with equal employment opportunity and laws and employment policies of the State of Michigan.
