News from Dr. Cindy Wu
I started my post doc position at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in January 2007 in Gary Andersen and Terry Hazen’s groups. So far I am learning how to analyze environmental samples with the PhyloChip by Affymetrix. The microarray is capable of detecting up to 9000 different prokaryote taxas. The data analysis is the daunting task. I am learning about how to statistically analyze the massive amount of data that we get from the microarray. I have also been able to sit in on meetings and help sampling with a large-scale project that is trying to correlate global climate change to plant gene fluxes. In addition to learning the basic techniques and getting exposed to all the projects that are on-going, I am formulating my own research area. It has been an exciting time here at LBL. I am excited by all the collaborative work that is going on, and the announcement of the BP $500 million grant to start the Energy Biosciences Institute.
